Musical Memories of Grandfather by Samantha Sherman

My Grandpa Morty has a deep passion for music. Although he doesn’t read music and has never taken a lesson, he can play almost any song he hears. Some of his favorite songs to play include “Que Sera Sera”, “Crying in the Chapel”, and “America the Beautiful.” My mom and I love the song “Hallelujah”, so we started playing it around the house, and within a few days Morty was playing it on the piano. Morty also enjoys listening to records by artists like Chopin, ABBA, and Simon and Garfunkel. I often catch him in his room dancing, even at the age of 95! My grandpa is really proud of his musical talents, and some of my most cherished memories of him involve sitting next to him on a piano bench.

Editor's Note: Please refer to the video of Morton Sherman playing the piano at age 95, made by his granddaughter, Samantha, and donated to this registry. Refer to Related Media phoro and Gallery (Video) to hear Morton playing.
